Today’s passage reading comes from Hebrews 4:1-11
We all have sought out rest and we have all fallen short of the kind of rest only Christ can offer. I am reminded of this daily. I seek rest from work, from bills, from stress, from temptation, the weather, from family, and from the various things that life throws my way; only to be let down that I cannot find true rest. I am reminded that I cannot provide, for myself nor anyone else, the rest that only God can deliver! Amen
What does God promise us in His word when it comes to rest?
· What the Christian will rest from, is the struggle against the forces of evil and the afflictions by which this present life is marred. (Phil 4:19 & Psalm 37:3)
· God intends for some people to enter into the promised rest. This rest is promised to each of us IF we boldly seek it and refrain from living in disobedience. (Hebrews 4:9-11)
· God loves you with a greater love that we cannot ever fathom, that is why He created an eternity of rest of those whom seek Him with all their heart, mind, and spirit! (John 3:16 & 17)
· Finally, God offers this rest to you, right now! When we go to be with the Lord on high, we can experience with Christ the true rest. This rest is in the presence of the Lord will replace the labor and heavy burdens of life and be replaced by peace, and joy! (Matthew 11:28 & 29)
Today I am resting on God’s promise of rest. I know that I will not find it outside of His grace. I want to encourage you to be in prayer for each other in our times of restlessness. Remember rest will come in God’s timing, for He has promised it to those who believe!
